Ghost of Yōtei – Music from Watanabe Mode brings an iconic anime touch to PlayStation®5’s latest samurai adventure.
Released via Milan Records, the six-track EP is a lo-fi, hip-hop-infused soundscape crafted by Shinichirō Watanabe, the visionary behind Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. The EP accompanies the Watanabe Mode in Ghost of Yōtei, one of three gameplay modes in the newly launched action-adventure title for the PS5.
Watanabe Mode pays tribute to the hip hop-meets-samurai aesthetic of Samurai Champloo, delivering a chilled-out audio experience as players traverse war-torn 1600s Japan. The mode features beats from producers Sweet William, mabanua, Mark de Clive-Lowe, and DJ Mitsu the Beats, with Watanabe at the helm as music director.
Track highlights include:
-
‘Yotei Six Theme (DJ Mitsu the Beats Remix)’ – a haunting opener co-produced with composer Toma Otowa
-
‘Kiseki’ by mabanua, blending smooth textures with cinematic undertones
-
‘Atsu’s Theme (Sweet William Remix)’ – a downtempo closer that hits hard with emotional weight
The EP follows the game’s original soundtrack by Toma Otowa, a 22-track score fusing traditional Japanese instrumentation with sweeping Western film music energy.
Ghost of Yōtei is set 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima, following the revenge quest of Atsu, a lone mercenary haunted by her past. The game is now available on PS5.
