SEVENTEEN send a strong message with new mini-album 'FML' — listen

SEVENTEEN are back.

On 24 April, the award-winning K-pop powerhouse returned with the release of their 10th mini-album, FML via PLEDIS Entertainment. The record follows their most recent full-length album, Face The Sun and its repackaged version, Sector 17

Since their debut in 2015, FML is the first SEVENTEEN release to feature two title tracks: ‘F*ck My Life’ and ‘손우공(Super).’ ‘F*ck My Life,’ a track driven by a triphop-esque beat, has “honest and straightforward lyrics,” said Woozi in a preview talk leading to the mini-album premiere.

“The lyrics, everyone will relate to them. It is very realistic,” added The8. “When working on this album, I thought I live like this as well, but I will live by overcoming it.”

Speaking about the move to promote two title tracks at once, leader S.Coups told Allure Korea“We wanted to chase two rabbits and get to catch both. We strongly pushed for both songs to be title tracks because we thought that they had the music we wanted to do and the message we wanted to deliver.” (우리가 하고 싶은 음악, 전하고 싶은 메시지를 담았으니 두 곡 모두 타이틀로 가고 싶다고 강하게 밀어붙였어요.)

“The two title songs have completely different vibes,” vocalist DK also told Allure Korea. “‘Super’ is a song that comes to mind when you think of SEVENTEEN. The sound of ‘F*ck My Life’ is really beautiful. The track’s subject is also special, like, it's a story that we haven't told before.” (타이틀 두 곡의 느낌이 완전히 달라요. ‘손오공’은 세븐틴 하면 생각나는 퍼포먼스를 담은 곡이에요. ‘F*ck My Life’는 사운드가 정말 아름답고요. 곡 내용 역시 그동안 우리가 하지 않던 이야기라는 점에서 특별해요.)

Meanwhile, the latter is named after the Monkey King, a mythical figure popularly known in modern adaptations like Dragon Ball as Son Goku (Korean: Son Oh Gong 손우공). “It’s a song about a character who overcomes adversity, thrives, and doesn’t break down,” rapper Mingyu describes the track to Cosmopolitan Korea(역경을 이겨내며 성장해가고 무너지지 않는 캐릭터를 주제로 만든 곡이거든요.)

The carrier singles are accompanied by unit songs, namely: ‘Fire (Hip-Hop Team)', ‘I Don’t Understand but I Luv U (Performance Team)', and ‘먼지 (Dust) (Vocal Team)'. The synthpop-tinged ‘April shower’ is the sixth and final track on the mini-album.

In 2022, SEVENTEEN took over the world with their Be The Sun world tour that saw concerts in Manila, Jakarta, Bangkok, Singapore, and more.
