SEVENTEEN members JEONGHAN and JOSHUA are blurring the boundaries between dreams and waking life with their new unit, JxJ.

Released on 19 October, their debut EP DREAMSCAPE explores the overlap between subconscious fantasies and real-world aspirations. Across seven tracks, the pair move through house, R&B and rock, expanding their vocal range from their familiar delicate tones into deeper registers.

Leading the EP is ‘12 o’clock’, a dance-rock track drawing on the disco and funk of the 1970s and 1980s. Its search for an unnamed “you” unfolds between midnight and noon, leaving listeners to decide whether the object of that pursuit is a lover, an ambition or a dream.

The accompanying music video places JEONGHAN and JOSHUA in a world where familiar spaces become increasingly strange. A railway cuts through an open field, a train carriage twists out of shape, and seemingly endless rooms offer no escape. Cool, subdued colours lend an eerie atmosphere to the duo’s pursuit.

Among those images is a mythical creature combining a peacock with the Ouroboros. Bringing together symbols of splendour and eternal recurrence, it reflects the video’s movement between reality and fantasy, as well as the EP’s circular structure.

Conceived as a continuous narrative loop, DREAMSCAPE opens with the dreamy house track ‘Like you’, before moving into ‘Outside’ and the R&B and soul of ‘One plus one’.

The EP also gives each member space to pursue an individual sound. JOSHUA co-wrote and co-composed the alternative rock track ‘Not personal (JOSHUA Solo)’, while JEONGHAN contributed lyrics to his electro-house solo, ‘Coloring (JEONGHAN Solo)’. Closing track ‘No looking back’ brings a raw band sound to the project, finding romance even in the shattering of a dream.

The duo will next bring the EP’s world to the stage with JEONGHAN X JOSHUA JOURNEY INTO [DREAMING]. The tour opens with three shows in Incheon from 30 October to 1 November, followed by stops in Saitama, Macau, Taipei, Busan and Hong Kong.
