From staging Cabaret to bringing live music into hospital wards, Sing’theatre is celebrating two decades of taking the performing arts to audiences across Singapore.

The theatre company has announced a year-long celebration of its 20th anniversary, looking back on its productions, performers and community programmes while preparing for its next chapter. Details of the anniversary line-up will be announced progressively.

Founded in 2006 by Nathalie Ribette, Sing’theatre began as a way to connect France and Singapore through the performing arts. Its repertoire has since spanned A Singaporean in Paris, A French Kiss in Singapore, A Spoonful of Sherman, Forever Young, and Little Shop of Horrors.

Along the way, its productions have featured familiar names from Singapore’s stage, including the late Emma Yong, Hossan Leong, Gurmit Singh, Mina Kaye, Sebastian Tan, and Siti Khalijah Zainal.

The company has also given emerging performers their first professional musical theatre credits. Former Sing’theatre Academy student Misha Paule Tan made her debut in I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, while Tony Tong voiced Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors. This year, emerging director Eric Larrea took the helm of its production of [title of show].

Beyond the theatre, live music has become a significant part of the company’s community work. Its 365 Hours of Music initiative brings performances to patients, caregivers, healthcare workers and visitors. In its 2025 financial year, the programme reached more than 24,000 beneficiaries across seven hospitals, including 5,845 through bedside performances.

Its annual MusicFest@SGH also turns Singapore General Hospital into a space for live music. The latest edition brought together more than 260 performers and 175 volunteers, reaching over 12,000 people through performances across nine locations and in hospital wards.

For those keen to take the stage themselves, Sing’theatre Academy offers singing, acting and dancing training from age three through adulthood. Its Showstoppers programme gives adults the opportunity to audition, train and perform in a fully produced musical, regardless of their professional backgrounds.

“When I founded Sing’theatre 20 years ago, my dream was to share my love of musical theatre with audiences in Singapore,” said Ribette, the company’s Founder and Artistic Director. “That passion remains just as strong today, but our purpose has grown beyond the stage. We have seen how music and theatre can bring comfort to patients, build confidence and create meaningful connections between people.”

Sing’theatre plans to continue producing musical theatre while expanding its education and community outreach programmes. Further announcements on its anniversary celebrations and upcoming programmes will follow.
