Singapore Symphony Orchestra unveils upcoming concert season

Fans of classical music and riveting musical experiences will definitely not want to miss out on Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO)'s upcoming season. 

In a media event held on 4 May, Singapore's flagship orchestra revealed the lineup for its upcoming 2023/24 concert season. The highly-anticipated lineup, which consists of performances from prominent, internationally-renowned musicians such as Filipino musical conductor Gerard Salonga, South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim, Singaporean composers Zechariah Goh, Kelly Tang, Chua Jon Lin, and many more will cater to the musical interests of audiences from all walks of life and encompass various genres.

Kicking off the exciting new season, fans of Hans Zimmer are invited to an immersive experience featuring the incredible works of the German film score composer and music producer. Conducted by Gerard Salonga, the concert will be held on 14 and 15 July at the Esplanade Concert Hall at 7:30 PM and will spotlight music selections from acclaimed films such as The Dark Knight Rises, Inception, Interstellar, The Lion King, and more.

The Temasek Foundation SSO National Day Concert will be returning for its sixth edition on 13 August at the Esplanade Concert Hall at 4 PM. Conducted by Ng Tianhui, SSO, Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir, and the Singapore Symphony Children's Choir will showcase works from Singaporean composers Zechariah Goh, Kelly Tang, Chua Jon Lin, Sulwyn Lok, Felix Phang, and more. The event will also be livestreamed for free on SSO's official YouTube channel.

Chloe Chua, SSO's very own Singaporean Artist-In-Residence, will be continuing her residency for a second year and performing an exciting slew of concerts throughout the season. One of which will see the young violin prodigy entrancing audiences with a performance highlighting Italian violinist and composer Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 in Chloe Chua Plays Paganini on 2 September at the Esplanade Concert Hall at 7:30 PM.

"As part of this season, we have with us our charming Singaporean Artist-In-Residence, Chloe Chua, who will be continuing her residency with the SSO. She will complete with us the important cycle of performances and recordings of all the works the young genius Mozart (then barely older than Chloe) had written for Violin and Orchestra — for his own use!" Hans Graf, Music Director, Singapore Symphony Orchestra wrote.

On the forthcoming concert season, Kenneth Kwok, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Symphony Group shared: "The Singapore Symphony Orchestra's new season presents you an incredible selection of concerts for all to enjoy. We are thrilled to finally be able to launch an entire season of programmes, our first since the pandemic." 

"We are going with full energy into our second full season, continuing our proud journey through the world of classical and new masterpieces. We are happy to welcome you, our dear audience, to join us on this exciting journey," Hans Graf wrote.

Previously on 19 March, SSO was named one of the world's best orchestras by BBC Music Magazine as one of only two Asian orchestras on the list.
