Sony and LEGO invest in Epic Games' $2 billion project to build metaverse

Epic Games is building the metaverse. 

In line with the world's recent transition into Web3, the gaming powerhouse—who is home to titles like Fortnite and Fall Guys—has just announced that they will be building a new entrance into the metaverse following investment from Sony and KIRKBI, the parent company behind LEGO

"This investment will accelerate our work to build the metaverse and create spaces where players can have fun with friends, brands can build creative and immersive experiences and creators can build a community and thrive," said Epic Games CEO and Founder Tim Sweeney.

With USD 1 billion from each company, Epic Games will kickstart their metaverse project that is said to compete with platforms such as The Sandbox and Decentraland. The entire project comes as part of the company's continued effort to create better gaming experiences. 

For now, Epic Games' plans for the metaverse have yet to be revealed.
