It's time to get your headphones on and start remixing as Spotify launches its latest tool to make the Spotify Premium listening experience even more epic.

In partnership with Universal Music Group, the music streaming mogul introduces a new function on the app that allows listeners to create covers and reimagined versions of songs by participating artists. By harnessing the power of generative AI, the tool encourages creation as consumers get the chance to create new versions of some of their favourite tracks opening up new doors and revenue streams for the platform and for participating artists. The tool is a paid add on for existing users increasing the profitability of this new in-app function.

Co-CEO of Spotify Alex Norström, explains more about the tool and what it brings to the app and platform sharing, "Solving hard problems for music is what Spotify does, and fan-made covers and remixes are next. What we’re building is grounded in consent, credit, and compensation for the artists and songwriters that take part. Through each technological transformation, we have worked together with Sir Lucian and his team to evolve the music ecosystem into a richer, more beneficial experience for fans and a more rewarding outcome for artists and songwriters".

Universal Music Group echoed a similar sentiment, stating that the initiative strengthens the bond between artists and fans by encouraging curiosity, discovery, and creativity. The tool aims to help listeners feel more connected to the music they are engaging with, fostering deeper artist-listener relationships while also allowing users to express their own individuality through the experience. Building on our long track record of leading the industry through technology changes, and collaborating with Alex, Gustav, Daniel and the team at Spotify, this initiative is firmly artist-centric, rooted in responsible AI, and will drive growth for the entire ecosystem,” adds Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Group.

As streaming platforms continue to evolve beyond passive listening, Spotify’s latest collaboration with Universal Music Group signals a new era of interactive music consumption shaped by creativity and AI-driven innovation. By giving listeners the opportunity to actively reimagine the songs they love while keeping artists at the centre of the experience, the initiative reflects how technology is steadily reshaping the relationship between fans, music, and artistic expression.
