Strange Fruit returns once again as they gear up for the release of their upcoming debut EP Drips. The band unveils ‘Monopolar’, which blends intricate sonic textures and cathartic lyrics to capture the haunting blur between dreams and reality.
‘Monopolar’ slows and drifts inward, creating a cinematic, immersive soundscape that Irza Aryadiaz calls a “new multiverse—like a film-score dimension that pulls you inside.” Its sonic arrangement radiates evenly, engulfing the listener with the emotional richness that each note strikes.

Building off the ripples of their first single ‘Iridescent’, ‘Monopolar’ also exudes a similar haunting and reflective narrative, coming through in the rich electronic soundscape inspired by avant-garde composers who shaped kosmische and early synth music. The beautifully composed lyrics add another layer of depth to the track as they say, “. . .feel nothing—less you made me feel like I can fly, dream-dreamers . . . you made me feel like I can fly.”
Baldi Calvianca expresses his sentiments about the track as he shares, “Surreal, it’s actually a restless song—strange and absurd. ‘Monopolar’ is about bottled-up anxiety, about talking to yourself. About holding onto dreams and hope while the world feels like it’s getting darker.”
Founders Baldi Calvianca and Irza Aryadiaz describe ‘Monopolar’ and the other three tracks on Drips as acts of exploration, uncovering new sounds and crafting music that feels entirely unprecedented.
“I’ve absorbed a wide range of musical inputs, so I want the output to be just as wide,” says Aryadiaz. “After everything Strange Fruit has been through and everything we’ve listened to, satisfaction only comes if we find something genuinely new—music people haven’t played before. A true genre-bender.” Calvianca puts it more bluntly: “That’s why Strange Fruit has always wanted to write music that makes people pause, feel confused, and ask questions. Music that doesn’t sound like anyone else.”
The dreamlike and psychedelic energy that manifests through ‘Monopolar’ sets Strange Fruit apart from most other bands in Indonesia’s music scene. ‘Monopolar’ signals the band’s shift from noise-pop to a fully synth-driven sound, blending shoegaze, ecstatic drone, and a restless, kinetic pulse.
