Online language learning platform Preply conducted a survey of 1,502 Singaporeans to find out which artists are most likely to stir emotions. The findings offer a revealing insight into the emotional impact of music on listeners.
The rankings of artists most likely to make fans feel happiness are as follows:
- Taylor Swift
- Maroon 5
- Blackpink
- Jay Chou
- JJ Lin
- Justin Bieber
- Rihanna
- BTS
- Beyonce
- Dua Lipa
Taylor Swift is the artist most likely to bring joy to Singaporean fans, with 23.6% of respondents saying her music makes them happy. Following closely are bands Maroon 5 (19.8%) and BLACKPINK (15.2%). Other artists in the top 5 include Jay Chou and JJ Lin.
Resonant music is also bittersweet because Jay Chou also tops the list for the artist most likely to make fans feel down, with 19.5% of people saying they feel sad while listening. Taylor Swift follows closely at 19%, with JJ Lin, Eric Chou, and Adele rounding out the top 5.
The artist most commonly making fans feel angry is Linkin Park, with 14.1% of people admitting to feeling this emotion while listening to their music. Rapper Eminem takes second place, with 12%, while heavy metal band Metallica is third, with 9.8% of the vote.
For artists making fans the least angry, Vũ takes the top spot at 1.7%, followed by Radwimps (2%) and LANY (2.1%).
Taylor Swift is also the artist most likely to make listeners feel love, capturing 25.9% of the vote. Swift's music also helps in language learning, with 57% saying global music aids in learning a new language, contributing to English learning worldwide. Next is Ed Sheeran, with about 20.1%, while Bruno Mars is third with 15.9% voting.
