On 25 March, Swee Lee introduced its Vinyl Library, a first-of-its-kind lending experience in Southeast Asia that invites listeners to slow down and rediscover the art of intentional listening.
Long before streaming and algorithm-driven playlists, music was something you sat with. Albums were played from start to finish, liner notes were studied, and every flip of the record felt deliberate.
With its new Vinyl Library, Swee Lee is recreating that experience for a new generation — one that’s grown up with music at their fingertips, but not always in full.

“Music has never been more accessible, but somewhere along the way the experience of truly listening got lost,” shared David Nam Le, Managing Director of Vista Musical Instruments.
Unlike traditional record stores, the Vinyl Library isn’t about quick purchases — it’s about time spent with music.
Members can:
- Borrow up to three vinyl records at a time
- Take them home and listen at their own pace
- Return whenever they’re ready for their next pick

To deepen the experience, Swee Lee has also introduced in-store listening stations at Clarke Quay and The Star Vista. These private audio spaces allow visitors to sit with a record — solo or with a friend — whether it’s their own collection or something new from Swee Lee’s catalogue.
The Vinyl Library is part of Swee Lee’s wider ecosystem powered by the VMI Connect app, which unlocks access to community-driven experiences across its stores.
Membership starts from S$29/month, with perks including:
- Vinyl Library access
- Up to 12 hours of listening station sessions monthly
- Discounts of up to 15% at partner cafés
- Priority access to music events, masterclasses, and album launches

Members can also book curated sessions to explore rare and collectible instruments with guidance from Swee Lee specialists.
For Swee Lee, the initiative goes beyond nostalgia — it’s about reconnecting listening with creativity.
“Making music and hearing music are two sides of the same thing,” said Kuok Meng Ru, Founder and CEO of Caldecott Music Group. “Deep listening is where inspiration starts.”
With over 80 years of history in Singapore’s music scene, Swee Lee’s latest move feels both timely and timeless — a reminder that sometimes, the best way to experience music is to simply press play… and stay awhile.
