Estimated:  reading

Beloved Taiwanese indie band Shallow Levée has announced that they will be holding a free show and meet and greet event on 15 August at Swee Lee Clarke Quay.

Originating from the harbour city of Kaohsiung, the band has built a growing fanbase across Taiwan, China, and Japan with their genre-bending sound and quirky marketing tactics—like performing at weddings but only ever singing their own tracks.

Shallow Levée's signature style of music includes a unique and eclectic blend of indie and alternative sounds that they use to weave together meaningful lyrics—reflecting on each band member's perspectives of life in Taiwan. This distinct flair shines through in one of their most popular tracks, '月光'.

Their one-of-a-kind sound has earned them a two-time nomination for the prestigious Golden Indie Music Awards.

Their showcase in Singapore will give fans a chance to enjoy the band's greatest hits, while relaxing in the cozy atmosphere of the venue and having a drink or chomping on a waffle just jamming out to the tunes. Click here to get tickets or for more information about the event.

Not only is this visit a way for the "band to rent" to connect with fans while playing tracks infused with the slice-of-life sunny sounds inspired by Taiwanese life, but also a chance to hold a book tour to celebrate the release of the book 在燈暗的時候唱歌給自己聽 Singing Songs for Yourself in the Darkness authored by Shallow Levée's multi-talented frontwoman, Yiling.

Following the book's official release on 11 August, the book tour will be visiting cities in the region such as Penang on 12 August, Kuala Lumpur on 13 August, and in Singapore on 17 August.

  • 12 August - Book Island @COEX - Penang
  • 13 August - Monsoon Books - Kuala Lumpur
  • 17 August - Grassroots Book Room - Singapore

The book tours happening in Malaysia and Singapore give fans the exclusive opportunity to meet the whole band and chat with Yiling about her book that covers a variety of topics ranging from the stories and philosophies that lie behind much of Shallow Levée’s discography, to societal pressures in the city, local streets and sounds, and marriage equality.

Although the band might not have new works ready yet to play during this visit, they have hinted at a new project that is already in the works that they might play on their next visit to Singapore and Malaysia, as they reveal, “Previously when we made albums it was always a rush, and the themes would always come before the music. This time our agreement was to leave more time to try different possibilities, each band member will be in charge of several songs, and we will have two producers to produce the music before we slowly think about the concept. You can expect the album in the first half of 2026!”

With this new and exciting announcement of an upcoming album, fans can learn the creative process and inspiration behind their songs during the book tour and jam out to old tracks while looking forward to their new release during the showcase.
