Taiwanese indie darlings MoonD’Shake have released their new single ‘Bubbles’.
This is the band’s first release after dropping their acclaimed debut album EGG SALA last year. With this new track, MoonD’Shake teases the layered emotions that set the tone for their next album.
“Our previous works have a focus on ‘stubbornness’, which is reflected across our arrangements. This time, we hope to explore a lighter, gentler approach to our music, lending more space for the music to breathe,” shared MoonD’Shake lead singer Lynn Hsu.
The new direction is also influenced by the band members’ own life experiences over the past year, which has changed their thoughts about their works. The band admits that they initially aimed for a “teenage girl” label among audiences when it comes to their sound, but now they have decided to base their music off what they are feeling at the moment.
‘Bubbles’ begins with the sounds of an omnichord, with its memorable bass lines forming a harmony with the piano lines. In this single, Lynn’s vocals are more relaxed than usual, coupled with producer Kuo-Yen Huang’s smooth arrangement, and guitarist John Huang’s guitar melodies bring up the song’s tension.
The song is inspired by the fragility and ambiguity of life. At the end of a life cycle, everything around us is as fragile as bubbles that might burst anytime. The song also highlights the many questions in life that remain unanswered. The complicated feelings of people are often difficult to express, and the weight of life is equally impossible to measure.
