Luminate just shared their 2022 Year-End Report.

The comprehensive report includes a look at the music consumption trends and listener insights in the US and emerging markets, as well as the Luminate-powered Billboard year-end charts for the US.

Top Albums of 2022 (US)

Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti is the Top Album of 2022 in the US, with a total of 3.4 million Total Album-Equivalent Consumption - including album and song sales, plus on-demand audio and video streams. The Puerto Rican superstar dominated 2022 in streaming with billions in audio and video streams. 

Taylor Swift's Midnights garners 3.294 million TEA, with Morgan Wallen's Dangerous: The Double Album with 2.405 million TEA. Harry Style's Harry's House, and The Weeknd's The Highlights round up the Top 5 Albums of 2022.

Best-Selling Albums of 2022 (physical & digital combined - US)

Taylor Swift's Midnights is the best-selling album (across physical and digital formats) of 2022 in the US, selling 1.818 million copies. Midnights sold 945,000 vinyl records and 640,000 CDs, topping the lists for both formats. The feat follows the numbers for 2020's folklore, which sold a total of 1.276 million copies.

Harry Styles comes in second with his third studio album, Harry's House. His best-selling album yet, the record featuring the hit single 'As It Was' has sold 757,000 copies. The vinyl album sold 480,000 copies, with the CD format at 219,000 copies.

BTS' Proof takes third place with 422,000 copies sold. The global superstars' anthology album comprises 35 tracks which includes their biggest hits, unreleased songs, unheard demos, as well as brand new offerings like 'Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment),' 'Run BTS,' and 'For Youth'. Released in a three-CD package, the album sold 413,000 CD albums throughout 2022, making it the second best-selling CD of the year.

Sour, Olivia Rodrigo's debut album, and 30, Adele's triumphant return, continue to rake in sales a year after its release. Rodrigo's album has sold 354,000 copies, while Adele's record sold 296,000 copies in 2022.

Beyoncé's comeback album, Renaissance, rounds up the Top 5 with 335,000 copies sold. The pop star's disco comeback earns Beyoncé spots in numerous Best Albums of 2022 lists, including Bandwagon's Top Albums of 2022.

Albums like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, originally released in 1977, and Michael Jackson's Thriller, which dropped in 1982, continue to find new fans in 2022. Standing the test of time and proving themselves as classics, the records sold at 310,000 and 236,000 copies respectively. 

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d City, which was first released in 2012, lands in ninth. The rapper's critically acclaimed sophomore album got a 10th anniversary vinyl reissue in 2022, and has sold 254,000 vinyl copies, with a total sales record of 278,000 copies.

Wrapping up the Top 10 is TOMORROW X TOGETHER's (TXT) second full-length album. Minisode 2: Thursday's Child sold a total of 229,000 copies, which includes a sales record of 227,000 CDs. 

Best-Selling CDs of 2022 (US)

With CDs as the primary physical format of K-pop albums, it's not a surprise that 7 out of 10 spots belong to K-pop acts. International pop stars Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, and Beyoncé are in first, fourth, and ninth, respectively, with the rest of the list filled with 2022 K-pop releases: BTS' Proof, TXT's Minisode 2: Thursday's Child, Stray Kids' ODDINARY and MAXIDENT, TWICE's Between 1&2, ENHYPEN's Manifesto: Day 1, and NCT 127's 2 Baddies.
