Last Friday, two homegrown acts invoked scale and sweep at a ceremony that exuded a mythic air. The occasion: The launch of Silver, the debut album by pro-minded metal quintet Test The Divide. With Permanence - comprised of brothers Irfan and Hydhir Ramli and their backing band - opening the proceedings, the night took off on a dynamic mesh of sounds, alternately serrated and beautiful.
Then, the main act strode forth on the stage. Sky-parting technical ability coupled with heart-on-sleeve emotion unfolded thereafter. Its guitar-forward, rock-honouring ethos soundtracked the rest of the night.
