"Holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks" The GRAMMY Awards postpones 2022 edition

The 2022 GRAMMY Awards Show will be happening later than expected.

On Wednesday (5/1), the Recording Academy and CBS announced that the global awards show will be postponed indefinitely due to the spread of the new Omicron variant.

Originally scheduled to be held on 31 January 2022, the organisers released a statement on the last day of voting, citing the heightened risk of the pandemic for the delayed date.

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

The likes of breakout pop star Olivia Rodrigo, super duo Silk Sonic, singer-songwriter Japanese Breakfast, global superstars BTS, and more are nominated for this year's edition.

Viewers and artists will have to wait a little longer for Music's Biggest Night, which will hopefully happen soon, according to organizers.
