The HU break boundaries with impactful single 'The Real You' — listen

The HU are back with their distinct musical style that reverberates culture and reinvention as they drop their single ‘The Real You’.

Keeping with the sonic textures of their signature Hunnu rock that blends traditional rock textures with traditional Mongolian instrumentation and throat singing, they bring life to the music by creating an entirely new genre that feels like a raging fire. The HU deliver a dense, atmospheric track driven by pounding rhythms and raw, menacing vocals.

Produced by Dashka and mixed by 5-time Grammy Award-winning producer, engineer, mixer, and musician Chris Lord-Alge, the track urges listeners to refrain from judging anyone but themselves, focusing on their flaws as they chisel away any chips or cracks to emerge as a better person. Taking inspiration from the Mongolian proverb, “Don’t worry about what is on top of a person’s head, just worry about what is not on yours,” the track stands as a testament to that sentiment.

Sung in Mongolian, ‘The Real You’ cuts through language barriers with its raw emotional weight, delivering fierce, unfiltered lyrics that confront abuse, manipulation, and the toll of silent endurance. With lines such as, “Will you keep slandering, gaslighting, menacing, and abusing?/Is it alright to keep enduring, fearing, and hiding?”

The single comes before the band's upcoming album. Tovshuur player and throat singer Temka sheds some light on what’s to come with the record as he shares, “While we have traditional songs that have our signature rhythm in our third album, there are few upbeat, fast songs such as this single. We recorded this song thinking of our ancestors, riding fast on horseback through the landscape.
