Indonesia's The Panturas are back and braver than ever with their latest release, Knights of Jahannam / Soma Gospel.
Dropping via their own Los Panturas Records, the Jatinangor-based surf-rock band embrace a darker, more experimental edge in this two-track maxi-single — all while gearing up for their first-ever Asia tour.

On 'Knights of Jahannam' and 'Soma Gospel', the band — made up of Abyan Zaki, Rizal Taufik, Bagus ‘Gogon’ Patria, and Surya Fikri — push beyond their sun-drenched roots, drawing on themes of spiritual chaos, societal collapse, and cosmic reckoning.
“This was our music lab. We challenged everything — from the way we write, to how we sound,” shares drummer Surya Fikri (aka Kuya).
While Galura Tropikalia hinted at change, Knights of Jahannam / Soma Gospel fully steps into new territory: haunting grooves, hypnotic rhythms, English lyrics, and subtle nods to 70s reggae, Sundanese textures, and soul. And yet, it never feels like a gimmick.
“We’re not here to sell exoticism,” guitarist-vocalist Abyan Zaki (aka Acin) insists. “The local elements are part of the art, not a costume.”
With longtime collaborator Ricky Surya Virgana producing, the result is two sprawling tracks that are gritty, spiritual, and undeniably bold — a declaration that The Panturas are ready to take their sound global. Next stop? Asia.
