A new entertainment destination in Singapore that will welcome both fans of blockbusters and independent and arthouse productions is on the way.

Announced on 13 June, Golden Village x The Projector at Cineleisure (GVxTP), a collaboration between independent cinema The Projector and cinema chain Golden Village Multiplex Pte Ltd, will be launched this December at Cathay Cineleisure Mall. It will occupy the space that currently houses Cathay Cineplex Cineleisure.

Described as a project that is "not a joint venture, acquisition or merger" but one that will see The Projector and Golden Village Multiplex Pte Ltd remain separate entities, GVxTP will have three halls dedicated to screening Golden Village's blockbusters and another three for alternative offerings from The Projector, which include arthouse films, documentaries, foreign productions, and cult classics.

When the space opens its doors later this year, guests will be able to not only catch exciting year-end releases such as Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom, Wonka, and the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel, but also check out music and comedy events, panels, festivals, art exhibitions, and pop-up markets. They will also be able to purchase food and drinks at a cafe and bar operated by The Projector.

“The collaboration epitomises our brand promise of delivering ‘More than just a Movie’,” said The Projector's co-founder, Karen Tan.

“Over the years, we have redefined what a cinema can offer: an expanded repertoire of film, art, culture and events. It is exciting to come together with Golden Village as it provides an opportunity to offer our experiences to a broader audience. This collaboration that leverages both our strengths will be a win-win for cinema lovers while remaining true to our independent spirit, offering a personalised and authentic experience for our audiences," she continued.

The Projector will also be running a pop-up cafe, bar, and live event space at Cineleisure from July to December this year.

The launch of GVxTP will come just months after the closure of The Projector's Projector X: Picturehouse pop-up at The Cathay on 9 July. To bid farewell to the space, the film exhibitor has curated a special programme, titled SWANSONG: PICTUREHOUSE, that includes an exclusive screening of ODESZA: The Last Goodbye Cinematic Experience as well as limited screenings of films such as National Theatre Live: Fleabag, Last Film Show, and Scala
