Presented by Bikini Bar
One great thing about living in Singapore's tropical heat is that any day can be beach day if you let it. This March, though, will come a day you should definitely pencil in for some sun and sand: Bikini Bar's first Beerkini Rocks event of the year.
Since 2013, the Beerkini Rocks series has been a staple for beach party lovers, throwing a quarterly afternoon-to-night bash to celebrate good ol' rock music and the local live scene with ice cold beer (Bintang, specifically) and the beach – a winning combination. For the first event of the year, Bikini Bar has enlisted Sweatshop Jam and The Illicit Edition, to entertain the crowd with covers of rock classics and Top 40 hits. Beerkini Rocks alumni have included Bushmen (2017), Peep Show and Pennylane with Zsa Zsa Scorpion (2016) and Jack & Rai (2014).
To mark this momentous occasion, Bikini Bar will be offering an early bird drinks promotion from 1pm to 4pm – Heineken Draft (660ml) for $10. Also available are Jaeger Shots at $8, Monster Bombs at $9, Buckets of Bintang at $40 and many more, not to mention the beach games with prizes to be won.
BANDWAGON TV
To get yourself ready for this year's Beerkini Rocks, have yourself a playlist of beachy tunes. You'll be itching for the sand between your toes when you're done.
Bruno Mars – 'That’s What I Like'
Starting off our list is Bruno Mars' 'That's What I Like'. Coming off its numerous wins at the recent Grammy awards (namely Song Of The Year, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance), this standout track from 24K Magic is the perfect choice for any party of any kind, thanks to its infectious groove.
Rupert Holmes – 'Escape (The Piña Colada Song)'
If you like piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain, you know just how iconic and catchy this Rupert Holmes song is, and that's why it's such a perfect fit for this list. With its beachy vibes and chill melodies, this song is sure to get the crowd singing along from start to finish... or just the choruses, for the sloshed, casual fans out there.
Smash Mouth – 'All Star'
Shrek's swamp is a long way away from the beach, but we'll gladly listen to Smash Mouth's All Star any day, and that includes beach day. The sunny, impossibly catchy early 2000s hit is an instant singalong-starter, and that makes it a must-have on any beach playlist.
The Drums – 'Let’s Go Surfing'
Right from the fast, strummy riff, The Drums' debut single screams beach party. We can't guarantee that you'll be able to catch any waves at Siloso Beach, but this peppy track will be sure to pull anyone into your sandy shindig.
Blink-182 – 'All The Small Things'
Blink-182's 'All The Small Things' is a throwback to the good old days. This pop-punk megahit has featured in a ton of movies and for good reason: it's nostalgia heavy and incredibly fun. When you put it on at the beach, just make sure you don't get your pants dragged off you by a random dog, like Mark Hoppus in the video.
DNCE – 'Cake by the Ocean'
Cake isn't the not the first food that comes to mind when you think of the beach, but after the advent of 'Cake By The Ocean', we think everyone should start repacking their picnic baskets. With its catchy, happy-go-lucky lyrics and instantly recognisable groove, there was no way we couldn't include this DNCE hit in our playlist.
Bob Marley – 'Three Little Birds'
"Don't worry about a thing, 'cause every little thing, is gonna be alright" are true lyrics to live by, especially when you're on a beach. With its calming lyrics and vocals, this Bob Marley classic will ease all your worries. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy an ice cold beer.
The Killers – 'Mr. Brightside'
'Mr. Brightside' is one of those once-in-a-decade songs that you can play at any party, no matter what the setting, and electrify the night. The Killers struck gold with this evergreen hit. Anyone who knows this song loves it, and it's guaranteed to get party-goers in the mood to dance the night away.
The first Beerkini Rocks party of the year will take place on Saturday, 10 March 2018 at Bikini Bar, Sentosa, from 3pm till late. Entry is free.
