Tomorrowland’s main stage destroyed in massive fire 2 days before festival kickoff

Just two days before the first weekend of Tomorrowland 2025, a massive fire engulfed the festival’s main stage in Boom, Belgium, leaving one of the world’s most iconic dance music structures completely destroyed. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, and while the cause remains under investigation, Belgian officials have ruled out foul play for now, classifying it as a likely accident.

Footage circulating on social media shows the towering stage—part of this year’s "Orbyz" theme—collapsing in flames, sending thick smoke into the sky. According to local police, the area was immediately evacuated and no injuries were reported.

Organisers have since confirmed that the festival will proceed as planned from 18–20 July and 25–27 July, with DreamVille and Global Journey experiences unaffected. In a statement shared via Tomorrowland’s official website, the team said, "We are currently investigating the cause of the fire and are doing everything we can to rebuild or create an alternative in time. All other festival areas remain intact and we’re doing everything we can to welcome festivalgoers for an unforgettable first weekend.”

Eyewitness accounts describe the scene as both surreal and devastating. “It was a surreal sight — flames shooting up into the sky where the main stage should be,” one festivalgoer told Billboard. “You don’t expect something like this to happen at a place like Tomorrowland.”

Online, artists such as Meduza and fans reacted with shock and concern. On Reddit, one user claiming to have worked on past editions of the stage shared, “Those frames take a team of twenty a week or two… so… dey gone.” Another added, “Cardboard and plastics tied to a metal frame… basically paper and kerosene”.

A TikTok video by Metro UK showing the fire has since gone viral, racking up more than 90,000 likes, with viewers calling the destruction “heartbreaking” and “surreal.”

With over 15 other stages still operational and artists including Martin Garrix, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, and more still scheduled to perform, organisers say they are working around the clock to adapt the festival experience. Updates on the new stage plan are expected soon.
