Twenty One Pilots return with two new singles, 'Jumpsuit' and 'Nico And The Niners' – watch

Grammy award-winning alt-rock duo Twenty One Pilots have returned with two brand new songs, the first sign of new material since 2015's Blurryface

The duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun broke into the mainstream with the release of Blurryface, having released three albums prior. The album included two standout singles, 'Stressed Out' and 'Ride'. Apart from that, the two worked on a single titled 'Heathens' for the Suicide Squad soundtrack, which peaked at the number 2 spot on the US Billboard Top 100 chart. Since wrapping up a tour in July 2017, the duo went dark on social media, signaling that they were working on new material.

Last night, July 11 2018, the duo broke their silence with two new singles and the announcement of a new album, titled Trench, which will be released in October later this year. An accompanying music video for the lead single off Trench, 'Jumpsuit' was also released.

'Jumpsuit' and 'Nico And The Niners' are telling of the direction that the duo are expected to head in on the forthcoming album, showcasing a wide range of genres and styles. 'Jumpsuit', while featuring heavy use of bass, builds upon the recognizable brand of alt-rock that is synonymous with Twenty One Pilots, and ends with an almost nu-metalesque breakdown featuring screamed vocals.

'Nico And The Niners' on the other hand, takes on a heavy psychedelic-reggae feel. The music video for 'Jumpsuit' and the audio video for 'Nico And The Niners' have reached over 4 million and 2 million views respectively in less than a day – no doubt a sign of how excited their fans are for their return.
