What Is Hip & Quantum Kid pay homage to their funk and soul roots at Aliwal

A celebration of all things funk, hip-hop, soul and jazz - this forthcoming gig conceptualized by TAJ's Teo Jia Rong and The Good Life Project's NAzTyKeys promises to be a wonderfully groovy and joyously energetic affair.

Headlined by What Is Hip (led by Teo Jia Rong) and Quantum Kid (previously known as Whitecap Strawmen, led by NazTyKeys), both outfits are acclaimed for their vibrant and colourful fusion of styles.

For this "Funk Soul Tribute Show" (a spin-off of their annual What Is Hip gigs, previously held at Blu Jaz Cafe) bands will be paying homage to their musical inspirations, which means that you can expect exuberant renditions of favourites from the likes of James Brown, Earth, Wind & Fire, Snarky Puppy, Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington and more!

Both ensembles are filled to the brim with some of Singapore's finest musical talent, including renowned artists such as Roze Kasmani, Alemay Fernandez, Tim De Cotta, Euntaek Kim, Jase Sng, Sano Shimano and Audrey Tengkey, amongst many others - so audiences can expect this show to be equal parts sumptuously funky and gloriously technical.

What Is Hip x Quantum Kid: A Funk Soul Tribute takes place on 29th August, 7.30pm, at Aliwal Arts Centre. Entry is only $20. Tickets can be purchased at the door or via Peatix.
