This is not the first time that Kanye West or Ye has caused outrage and an influx of headlines discussing his controversial behaviour. The rapper is notorious for his anti-semetic beliefs and neo-nazi commentary that he shared openly through his music and social media platforms, primarily Twitter, in past years.
With a long list of controversial opinions and political beliefs that he uses music to push to the masses, many fans and music lovers have since decided to boycott the rapper to show that they do not partake in his opinion. However, taking into consideration and reviewing his problematic behaviour, Britain has since banned the rapper from the country.
On 7 April, the organisers of the Wireless Festival, Festival Republic, announced that due to West's ban on entering Britain, the three-day festival would be cancelled and refunds would be issued to those who were set to attend.

The rapper addressed the matter after outrage surrounding his appearance as headliner, stating that he had been "following the conversation around Wireless" and would be open to meet members of the community to "listen". "I know words aren't enough," he continues to add, going on to say that he would have to "show change through my actions. If you're open, I'm here", insinuating that he would be open to changing in the hopes that he would be forgiven by those who found disrespect and offence in his comments, and accepted back into the music industry with open arms.
Director of Festival Republic Melvin Benn responded to a letter from the Board of Deputies of British Jews on 6 April as they voiced their concerns with West's appearance, and Benn suggested to meet to further discuss the issue. The Board of Deputies spokesperson has confirmed that any request from the festival organisers or directors to meet and discuss the situation was not shot down. However, the Board of Deputies made it completely clear that Kanye West's invitation to perform should be revoked.
Chairman of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Phil Rosenberg, stated that the Jewish community all around the world would have to believe that West showed genuine regret and remorse for the hurtful speech and offensive comments that he has churned out in the past decade. Only then would they accept his performance on the Wireless stage as a true testament to his "reformation".
Melvin Benn appeared on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme to address the rapper's visa to enter the UK and the overarching issue about his appearance as the headliner for all three days of the festival, as he states, "He has a visa already issued to appear, to come into the country, and the home secretary may well rescind that today, I don't know. If she does, she does, and then the issue is over in terms of his appearance."
Since his ban on entering the UK was enforced, the Wireless Festival has been cancelled, putting an end to the issue and causing netizens to rejoice. Giving a person with such a huge influence in the music world, a person with the power to influence others through their music, such a viable platform to push those harmful ideologies during the current climate and state of the world was not an ideal move. However, his loyal fans still seem to welcome him with open arms. Before his ban on entering the UK, he performed to a sold out crowd at SoFi stadium in Los Angeles for two nights on 1 April and 3 April. Once again, given his history, knowing that there were people ready to support the rapper was shocking to say the least.

The ban that the UK has enforced on the rapper sends a clear message that United Kingdom does not stand for those who spread harmful rhetoric and divide communities. As the situation unfolds, it also highlights the growing accountability placed on artists and the platforms that elevate them, proving that influence comes with responsibility, and that public reception can shift just as quickly as headlines are made.
