For the first time ever, Wonderfruit is stepping beyond Thailand. With the launch of Wonderfruit Chapters: Kyoto, the beloved festival makes its international debut in Japan, bringing its signature blend of music, art, culture, and sustainability to a new setting. The five-day gathering is set to take place from 21–25 October in the historic city of Kyoto.
According to Mixmag Asia, Wonderfruit’s international expansion will unfold through its new Chapters format, beginning with Kyoto — a move that signals both growth and intention.
Music Director Phuong Le pointed to the natural synergy between Thailand and Japan. “There is a shared sensibility, a respect for nature, ritual, sound and community,” she said, adding that “This collaboration feels less like expansion and more like exchange.”

The Kyoto chapter will be positioned as an intimate, culturally rooted gathering — one that connects local traditions with Wonderfruit’s existing global community. Organisers describe the debut as a smaller, focused exploration of mind, nature, and sound through cultural expressions, retaining the festival’s core philosophy while embracing its new environment.
Phuong also underlined that this move reflects long-standing creative exchanges between the two countries. “Our intention is not for this to be a one-off, but the beginning of something we can nurture and grow responsibly,” she shared. “Growth for us is not about scale. It is about cultivating ecosystems that are in dialogue with their local communities and natural rhythms.”
While further details such as the exact venue, lineup, and programming have yet to be announced, anticipation is already building.
