Make no mistake: This one is undeniably for the culture. Local rapper and producer Wyane Hausely has released Zone, a 10-track EP that bears the contributions from some of Made in Singapore hip-hop’s most vital voices.
Across its 27-minute runtime, the listener will receive both firebrand rap and lilting R&B from a stacked list of rappers. Ae$Op Ca$H turns in a pulverising verse here, as do the myriad members of Unknown Radicals and Writers' Block. G-Preme and Louie Indigo provide a dashing measure of sing-rap melody to the proceedings, while VC and Sharbil merge swagger with intensity on their cuts.
The beats are spacey and menacing but there’s beauty when the mood calls for it. The scope and scale of this project make for a compelling testimony of the diversity at play in Singapore’s underground hip-hop ecosystem.
Play this loud.
