XG have released two new songs, ‘DEPENDS’ and ‘S.A.D’, drawing on nostalgic electropop and R&B to explore uncertainty and emotional vulnerability.
Out on 6 November, the release arrives alongside a surreal music video for ‘DEPENDS’, which the group also debuted live during their Los Angeles concert.
Lead single ‘DEPENDS’ blends late-2000s and early-2010s electropop with R&B, layered harmonies and dynamic flows. In a world that demands clear answers, the song makes room for doubt, following someone who continues searching and making their own choices despite not knowing what comes next.
The music video brings that spirit of exploration into a fantastical world. The members encounter seven vividly coloured creatures, each representing a member of the group, before chasing them through four distinct sets.
As they move beyond the camera and dive into new worlds, the visual echoes the song’s message of finding a path through individual choices. Its styling plays with different eras, pairing colourful, 1980s-inspired outfits and unconventionally worn ties with looks influenced by 1990s R&B and street culture. Animal and plant motifs further highlight each member’s individuality.
A dance break drawing on the sounds of 2000s R&B and electropop adds another burst of energy to the video’s unpredictable journey.
XG gave the song its first live performance as a surprise during the Los Angeles stop of XG WORLD TOUR: THE CORE at Crypto.com Arena, coinciding with the track’s release.
Meanwhile, ‘S.A.D’ pairs early-2000s R&B influences with contemporary rhythms, percussive beats and nostalgic harp melodies.
Centred on the phrase “Sad all day”, the song gives space to raw, unfiltered emotions. It asks whether confronting sadness is a sign of weakness or a form of strength, leaving listeners to find their own answer.
Alongside the new music, all seven members have launched individual Instagram accounts. Following the reveal on the group’s official account, fans can now follow JURIN (@__jurin.asaya__), CHISA (@_chisa.wav), HINATA (@hichaaanie), HARVEY (@amy__janet__harvey), JURIA (@juriaauueda), MAYA (@maya_kawachiii) and COCONA (@cocona__akiyama).
