"You might [have] got lazy during the pandemic but we didn’t." This was the promise of Yellow Claw in an interview with Bandwagon prior to their HYPEWORLD performance last 23 October at Gardens By The Bay's The Meadow.

And seems like they didn't disappoint. As the crowd partied at the "biggest celebration of freedom in Singapore," it's apparent that Jim Taihuttu and Nils Rondhuis went all out during their set.

This may no longer come as a surprise, especially to those who have caught the Dutch trap duo perform live before. But Yellow Claw doesn't just go all out during their performances; they go all out in releasing music as well. In the same interview, they revealed that they just have "too many bangers to name." We know they weren't just talking about their 2020 album, Never Dies.

In a brief conversation, Bandwagon got the chance to talk to the electronic heavyweights about making music beyond Yellow Claw and performing in Asia.

How are you? How have you guys been?

Really well. Still out here loving what we do, still out here being the best-dressed DJs in the scene, and still very much on top of the genre.

It's been years since you guys started Barong Family. How was it like founding your own record label and how has managing one changed over the years?

We’re heading towards our 10-year anniversary actually. It’s great cause the fundamentals didn’t really change. It’s still a vehicle for us to release our own music and [to] support the music of our friends. Whether it's people we have known for years or talented people we just met. And even during the pandemic, we kept a steady pace. We managed to start Hotel Barong in Bali, Indonesia, and flew in a group of artist[s] to live and work over there for 3 months.

We had the best time. It was challenging but I’m glad we pulled it off. Everybody was so locked up in the misery of their homes. Now we could all hang together and be social and simultaneously work on new music. Everybody went home a whole lot happier that’s for sure.

You've also recently released new music under your alias €URO TRA$H. Can you tell us more about it? How did this come about?

Jim and I write music all year round. So the songs really tend to pile up and I guess creativity just led us more and more towards these more housey, dance records. We ended up having so much fun with those that we decided to release them under a whole new name so it doesn’t distract people from the stuff we do with Yellow Claw.

It became a passion project of ours and if you f*ck with it, amazing. If you don’t, also fine. You can just listen to our trap sh*t. We're just here having a good time, and there’s an open invitation to everyone that’s interested.

You're no longer new to performing in Asia. What's the best thing about playing for an Asian audience?

Asian people really know how to have a good time. They party hard and drink better. We couldn’t wish for a better audience quite frankly.

Any message to your fans and listeners in Asia?

Ready for some real trap sh*t?
