Japanese song and dance spectacle TOKYO〜the city of music and love〜 will arrive in Singapore next month.
Starring Japanese film and music star Yu Shirota, who also serves as its director and producer, the show will be travelling beyond Japan for its Southeast Asia debut at the Esplanade Theatre on 22 June.
Concert-goers can expect to be treated to performances of J-pop hits, familiar Disney tunes, and Broadway favourites along with a variety of performance styles, including contemporary street and jazz dance, hip-hop, and beatboxing in an evening that will allow them to experience the "vibrancy" and "magic" of Tokyo.
Guests will also be transported to the Japanese capital via TOKYO〜the city of music and love〜's set design, costumes, and choreography.

At the event, Shirota, who is known for his roles in Hana-Kimi and the Sailor Moon Musicals, will be joined on stage by RIOSKE, yuzu, Rainy, Kaoru Harada, Shunsuke Omura, Nao Usui, BOXER, Tuki Takamura. TOKYO〜the city of music and love〜 will also feature special guest appearances by Singapore's Nathan Hartono and J-pop star miwa.
Kahori Kanaya, who has worked on theme park shows in Japan, will serve as the show's co-director while Japanese R&B artist SWEEP will serve as its music director.
Presented by production house Kyodo Tokyo, TOKYO〜the city of music and love〜's Singapore engagement will come a month after its opening in Japan at the Tokyu Theatre Orb.
Shirota said of TOKYO〜the city of music and love〜: “This exciting new show is a fusion of diverse musical genres and dance, featuring some of the region’s most gifted performers and artists. Along with dynamic staging, choreography and costumes, audiences can expect to be wowed as we showcase the iconic places and landscapes which embody the vibrant energy that is synonymous with Tokyo and its embrace of worldwide cultures.”
He continued: “We are thrilled to bring the show to audiences in Singapore, as a central artistic hub in the region and our chosen stage to showcase our work globally. I am also excited to collaborate with Singapore’s very own Nathan Hartono for this one-of-a-kind production, which is not-to-be-missed for anyone who appreciates the artistic flair and creativity Japan is known for.”
