Gearing up toward the release of his upcoming fifth album KONNAKOL, ZAYN follows the first pre-album release 'Die For Me' with 'Sideways', capturing the longing and desperation of missing some who used to be a constant in your life.
Imagine looking over to the cold and empty side of the bed, missing the person you used to see there, the late night conversations and fleeting moments that they used to share with you. ZAYN captures the absence of that moment and the raging loneliness that almost immediately engulfs you when the memories of that person seem to be the only thing that keeps you going.

Reminiscent of the sound that his debut solo album Mind Of Mine and his second album Icarus Falls had, 'Sideways' is a pop infused R&B banger that perfectly infuses the depth and crushing weight of emotions that missing somebody can bring. The lyrics paint the picture beautifully as they say, "I miss lookin' at you sideways, face-to-face with your lips on mine, and our legs on the pillowcase, sideways, late at night with your love lying next to mine." Capturing the yearning to just have the chance to memorise the feeling of knowing that special person is there by your side before they slip away.
The visualiser that pairs with the track is a perfect visual translation of the overarching narrative that the song illustrates. It sees ZAYN laying in an empty bed, looking over sideways only to see, nothing. emptiness where the person he loves should be laying. He wanders around the empty house craving the presence of the other person, constantly looking around hoping to just catch another glimpse of them.
With 'Sideways' taking its place right next to 'Die For Me', KONNAKOL is definitely shaping up to be one of ZAYN's strongest albums yet, tackling intense messages through the hard-hitting bangers that capture that distinctly ZAYN sound.
