Biography

A former street musician, Azmyl Yunor is one of the most acclaimed and prolific Malaysian independent/underground artist of his generation who’s helped popularise alt-country, lo-fi folk, and singer-songwriter genres in Malaysia through relentless touring, collaborations, and a prolific recording output since 1997 (eight solo albums and three EPs – including The Pedra Branca EP - to date). He is also known for his work with his touring band The Sigarettes and as a founding member of noise-rock band The Maharajah Commission, no wave band Ciplak, and punk band Ben’s Bitches. He remains a cult figure who prefers to navigate along the outer margins of the music scene and work his craft on his own terms with a very distinctive singular vision and wit.
