Hearing the local music group Coma in 2009 changed my perspective of what sound can do: A first time hearing rock compositions with complex, often contradicting emotions without lyrics.
On a warm night in December, in a blur of weekend intoxication, my friends and I wound up at
Soundmaker Studio (Weld Quay, Penang) where they were rehearsing. The song began with the sparsest, slowest rhythm guitar ever. But it built up within 7 minutes into a bludgeoning wall of noise.
