There are no upcoming gigs for The Singers Vocal Ensemble.
The Singers Vocal Ensemble draws from a long history of choral music in Singapore. Our members hail from the leading chamber choirs and vocal ensembles in Singapore, such as the Singapore Youth Choir, the Philharmonic Chorus, Vox Ensemble, Octmented and Tone Culture to name a few.Founded and directed by Wilson Goh, this labour of love has seen many transformations from its nascent all-female ensemble, Yume, started as a Junior College alumni chorus in 1997 to an all-male ensemble, WayOut, in 2000 and finally settling into the mixed ensemble it is today. The Singers Vocal Ensemble’s debut concert of sacred a cappella works spanning the 17th to the 20th Century, was held in December 2001 at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul on Queen Street. Since then, we have been invited to present Christmas carols at The Esplanade and also at the official launch of works by local composer, Dr Goh Toh Chai at the NanyangAcademyof Fine Arts, amongst other engagements.
In April 2006, we presented a well-received concert at the then newly opened Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre in Malaysia, being the first vocal ensemble from Singapore to do so. Following that in December 2006, we returned from a very successful European trip, winning Best Small Choir in the 16th International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music (Prague) and receiving the Festival Grand Prix with full marks from the jury at the 1stInternational Festival of Advent Music (Bratislava).
So far, we have successfully held 7 concerts and have presented over 15 Singaporepremieres, more than 5 Asian premieres and 1 World premiere, and have worked with several local and foreign composers. We represent the last of the remaining vocal ensembles in Singaporededicated to modern choral literature.
