Bushmen

Description

It may sound strange to most that a reggae band would sprout from an eclectic scene that is dominated by the Top 40 and the international arena at large. But for the young members of Bushmen, theirs was a co-existence realised by a common aim. Bushmen started jamming at the International School of Singapore, in 1997.

Taking the ensemble on the road, vocalist Izaar, lead guitarist Ristam, bassist Hassan, keyboardist Hairul, drummer Sofy, and percussionist Rahman jammed at local hotels, pubs and restaurants, harking back to an older generation of musicians who built up their followings by playing live. Appealing to younger audiences, the Bushmen popularity soared at venues such as the Nanyang Polytechnic, The American School, Youth Park, and La Salle School of Arts.

The first steps towards sucess were embraced when the band placed second runner up in Band Alert Contest organised by Yamaha and MTV, in 1998. The following year, the group signed a recording contract with Hunter's Records(s) and March 2000 sees the release of Rise Up. This mini-album features five original compositions that are fast-paced and filled with lively hooks that draw the listener to move along with the groove.

Join this talented reggae band as they bring the Rasta beats to Hard Rock Cafe every first Sunday of the month from 11:30 PM onwards.
