Ujikaji presents "cc vvv" crys cole (ca) VVV (Vivian Wang / Yuen Chee Wai) (sg) Artist Bios: crys cole crys cole is a Canadian sound artist working in composition, improvised performance and sound installation. Generating subtle and imperfect sounds through simple gestures, she creates textural works that continuously retune the ear. Delicately seeking to both reveal, and obscure the intricacy of seemingly mundane sounds and sources. cole has exhibited and performed throughout Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, the USA and Thailand. She has ongoing collaborations with James Rushford (AU) (as Ora Clementi) and Oren Ambarchi (AU). She has also worked with Keith Rowe, Lance Austin Olsen, Jamie Drouin, Mathieu Ruhlmann, Tetuzi Akiyama, Seiji Morimoto, Anthea Caddy, echo ho, Tim Olive and many more. Her work has been published on labels Black Truffle (AU), Penultimate Press (UK), Touch (UK), MeGO (AT), caduc. (CA), Bocian (PL), Another Timbre (UK) and Infrequency editions (CA/DE). VVV VVV is simply a moniker for pop-up synth duo Yuen Chee Wai & Vivian Wang, both members of avant rock group The Observatory. Expect prolific layers of thick fudgy synth as curious and titillating but perhaps not quite as gaudy as a glorious multi-coloured, multi-layered rainbow cake, topped with a swirl of madness. Vivian Wang (vocal, synth and keys) is best known as a founding member of Singapore avant rock band The Observatory. She is also a member of ARCN TEMPL (Utech Records), has performed solo and in various duos/outfits such as Meddle and Snake Blood Union. Yuen Chee Wai (guitar, synth, electronics) has been active in the local and international experimental improv circuit for the past 15 years. He is the curator of Asian Meeting Festival in Japan, and is also a part of the FEN – a quartet comprising of Otomo Yoshihide (Japan), Yan Jun (China) and Hankil Ryu (South Korea).
