This project is one of Kailin Yong’s various initiatives to promote cross-cultural friendship and understanding through music. Come take a trip through cultural time and space with Kailin and his friends as they present a mesmerizing program of folk music around the world showcasing the sonic and cultural versatility of the violin (also known as the fiddle).

Kailin Yong (Violin) :
Kailin Yong is a composer/violinisit/multi-instrumentalist/actor and most of all, a global citizen and a tireless advocate for using the arts to promote peace, love and understanding. Known to many as the “fiddler for peace”, he was the recipient of the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin in 2004 for his efforts in building cultural bridges through music.

Kailin trained at the Vienna Academy Of Music and spent 20 years “living, learning and traveling” in the US and Europe before returning to Singapore 4 years ago. He shares his gifts as a composer, music director and actor through his work with Flamenco Sin Fronteras, Maya Dance Theatre and In Source Theatre. He is also the founding member of Kailin Yong Peace Project, NuMundo, Y String Quartet, PLUS Trio, Qilin Group and Ella & Kai.

Kailin currently teaches at Lasalle and SOTA.

Sebastian Ho (Guitar) :
Largely a self-taught guitarist, he blends his influences of rock, pop and jazz into his own style and often plays with high energy and zest, making him one of the most versatile and busy session guitar players in Singapore. Known for the fire and energy in his playing, he excites his listeners, whether playing jazz, rock, pop or fusion in a solo, duet or group context.

In his 23 year music career Sebastian has played in several diverse situations from backing up international superstars in concerts to club gigs, and is currently touring with Kit Chan on her Spellbound Asian Tour. As a sought after studio recording sessionist, he has recorded for artistes like Tay Kewei, Bevlyn Khoo, Gillian M Tan, Claressa Monteiro etc, as well as leading his own groups, The SBT Trio and The Fuzionazz Project.
As a very experienced and in-demand music educator, Sebastian is currently teaching at ACS International, SJI International, Dulwich College and LASALLE College Of The Arts, offering both individual and ensemble / group classes.

Felix Phang (Bass) :
Felix Phang is a Double Bassist/Violinist/Trombonist, Jazz Composer/Arranger, and Educator, on a mission to give original jazz music a home in Singapore where he was born and raised.
After graduating in Jazz Composition from Berklee College of Music, Felix has continued to explore and compose music in a wide range of styles. His education in America opened the doors to a whole new dimension in the classically trained violinist’s mind, prompting Felix to make propagating the exciting and boundless world of jazz music part of his personal creed.

As an educator, band conductor and music tutor, Felix directly influences the next generation to appreciate, enjoy, and perform music as an outlet of expression and skill to be valued. Felix is also working on the Freedom String Movement with Kailin Yong to help classically trained string players make music “outside the box”.
