Darker Than Wax presents SVBKVLT ft. Swimful & Howell

For the very first time in Singapore, Darker Than Wax is proud to present a showcase of innovative Shanghai-based label and collective SVBKVLT. Born in iconic Shanghai nightclub The Shelter, SVBKVLT’s sonic aesthetic pushes the boundaries of all things dark, conceptual, and bass-heavy. Releasing music from some of China’s finest producers including Howie Lee, SLV, Floyd Cheung, and Faded Ghost (AKA Cha Cha), SVBKVLT has come to be recognised as one of Asia’s most influential labels in global dance music circles. Usually locked away in the studio way out in QingPu district, collaborating with hugely respected artists such as Lil’ B and Main Attraktionz, he makes some of the most beautiful beats and club tracks to come out of the city. His latest release on Shanghai’s SVBKVLT records, ‘PM2.5’, sees him moving away from his signature melancholic cloud rap sounds and delving into Sino-Grime constructions aimed directly at the dancefloor. The release has been supported by DJs around the globe, from UK’s Murlo, Scratcha DVA and Slackk, to New York’s J-Cush and all the way back to Asia with the likes of Tokyo’s Prettybwoy and Part2Style spreading his sound. PM2.5 hit number 1 on the Juno Bass Album chart and lead to him playing sets on the Boxed Rinse FM show and Tokyo’s Block FM. With a remix version of the album in the works including reworks by Air Max 97, Desto, Traxman and Howie Lee, an imminent EP on Mishka Records and a second release coming on SVBKVLT in September, 2016 is looking big for Mr Charlton. https://soundcloud.com/swimful Howell (SVBKVLT, UK/CN) Howell, previously know as Drunk Monk, is one of the main figures behind SVBKVLT, Sub-Culture, JuZhen Magazine and Shanghai’s The Shelter. A collector of everything from fresh, upfront and obscure dance music from around the globe, to digital dancehall and dub, through to rare Italian horror soundtracks and library records, Howell’s DJ sets span multiple genres and sounds but in a coherent and encompassing way. As well as a staple DJ at The Shelter and regular guest at Dada Beijing, Howell has played all over the globe, from Tokyo to Berlin, UK to Reunion Island, Singapore to Spain. https://soundcloud.com/svbkvlt
