ALBERT TIU piano
TCHAIKOVSKY Grand Sonata in G major, Op. 37
RACHMANINOV Piano Sonata in D minor, Op. 28
"an artist of uncommon abilities" -American Record Guide
"performances where heart and mind unite in a deeply affecting union. Tiu is the sort of artist...who can make a single note or chord tell, yet always within an enviably natural, lucid and refined context." -Bryce Morrison, Gramophone
Each written two years before their most monumental works for piano and orchestra (Tchaikovsky's 2nd Piano Concerto, Op. 44 and Rachmaninov's 3rd, Op. 30), these two grand essays for solo piano foreshadow their concerto counterparts, not just in key (G major and D minor, respectively), but also in their pianistic idiom and mood. Come join Associate Professor of Piano, Albert Tiu, as he traverses these not so often played epic sonatas.
