Japanese Jazz Party: Horns Riot

Get ready for an evening of high energy, party jazz with two of the hottest jazz acts from the Japanese live house scene—TRI4TH and CALMERA. With brassy trumpets and saxophones a-blazing, death-defying improvisations and hard-hitting swing, the two bands incite a Horns Riot in this double bill concert.

About TRI4TH
Founded in 2006, Japanese group TRI4TH debuted with their single TRI4TH plus EP on the Disc Minor label of Japan’s legendary DJ Tatsuo Sunaga. The band made its foray onto the musical stages of Tokyo and New York in 2009, serving as the backing band for the musical Talk Like Singing by hitmaker Koki Mitani with musical direction by renowned producer Yasuhiro Konishi.

The band’s albums have been extremely well received in Japan with Awakening (Oct 2015) reaching number 15 on Tower Records’ annual jazz sales chart within one month. They received the Album of the Year at the Nissan Jazz Japan Award in 2017 for their next album Defying. The band has performed in prestigious jazz festivals such as Tokyo Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne and Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

About CALMERA
CALMERA is a high-energy, eight-member jazz instrumental band from Osaka, Japan, whose concerts create the ultimate fan experience. With his wildly coloured hair and electrifying personality, band leader Goushi Nishizaki commands the stage and audience alike, getting everyone dancing and becoming part of the performance.

Popular in live houses and outdoor festivals, CALMERA plays a wide repertoire of music including jazz, ska, Japanese anime covers, J-pop, Latin, and rock music. With four indie albums and two major-label releases with Warner Music Japan, CALMERA has a dedicated following in Japan from appearances numerous music festivals, and sold out their latest tour. The band’s popular single The Dog Ran Away was chosen to represent Sony’s h.ear × WALKMAN campaign.
