Co-presented by Eyes To The Front and Re:fuge resident DJ Maurice Simon, Re:fuge is a party dedicated to showcasing the very best of House and Techno with a soul. It is a party that has no agenda, that believes in people and in music and stands for a sense of community. It is a party that respects the dance floor because the dance floor never lies.
For the 9th edition of Re:fuge, the party takes over Cato for the first time to bring you the sounds of some of Asia's best underground talent, with a headline set by Hong Kong's Ocean Lam, resident of HK's Oma club and Music Director of Social Room.

Twisting her listeners through deep techno sounds to warm house tracks, as dub techno chords, pumping basslines and delicate vocals drift together, Ocean’s music is simple but moody, favoring human feelings over machine-like clicks and pops.
In only a few short years since her 2008 debut, Ocean Lam has positioned herself as one of the leaders in Hong Kong’s electronic music scene. A former resident at Yumla, she has moved on to start two successful and distinctly different monthly nights at the famed Bassment Bar: FoxTrot, an all-female DJ night grounded in fun vibes; and Humdrum Hong Kong as well as Hypnotic hosting international stalwarts including Ryan Elliott, Oskar Offermann, Deetron, Dirt Crew, Dave DK, Glitterbug, I-Robots, and Till von Sein, to name but a few.
Outside of her own Hong Kong events, Ocean has been the go-to choice to support other international names like Sven Vath, Jimpster, Efdemin, Namito, Luke Hess, Till von Sein, Axel Boman and Marko Furstenberg...She has had headlining slots at Hong Kong’s biggest music festival, Clockenflap, for three years running, Wonderfruit in Thailand and has been booked for corporate events for global brands such as Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana. Her performances abroad in places like Berlin, Sweden, Amsterdam, Belgium & Spain... as well as her recent releases on Beatport have given the world a reason to keep an ear towards Hong Kong’s blossoming electronic underground.
Since 2010 she’s released two singles on Yumla Records, “Weirdos” and “Is All She Wants”, as well as 2013’s “Loosen Up”, released on Typhoon 8 Records. 2014 will see Ocean move on from the Humdrum collective to launch her solo event “Hypnotic”, complementing her semi-regular podcast of the same name. She is also music director for Social Room, a new underground club in HK from the Bassment crew, manage all the booking and line up.
◊ MAURICE SIMON ◊
Maurice is the creator and resident DJ of the Re:fuge House and Techno series. Maurice's musical journey began with a discovery of the nu-jazz and broken beat genres pioneered by Jazzanova, Trüby Trio and 4 Hero. He later ventured into the deep house and techno spectrum, inspired by time spent as a promoter for Ben Watt's iconic London-based Buzzin' Fly Records, and early releases put out by German labels Compost Records, Sonar Kollektiv and Dixon & Âme's Innervisions. The hallmark sound of his rhythmic DJ sets is now rooted firmly in the very core elements of house, soul and techno, blending diverse genres and varying tempos with a warm, harmonic mixing style touched with overlapping melodies, basslines and syncopated drum patterns. His versatility has seen him booked to perform alongside a diverse selection of international house music heavy-weights, including Dave Seaman, Andre Crom, Sei A, Rainer Trüby and Till Von Sein.
A presence on the DJ circuit in Singapore since 2008 and a Heineken Green Room Music Ambassador, Maurice has performed at top venues across South-East Asia including Kilo, Velvet Underground/Zouk and Kyo (Singapore), Woo Bar at W Hotel and Jenja (Bali), Pisco Bar and Under9 (Kuala Lumpur) as well at Singapore’s ZoukOut Festival (2013) and Thailand's Wonderfruit Festival (2015).

From dangerous disco ditties to the ends of mind warping techno, CATS ON CRACK is a mew-sical journey personified. Since graduating from the FFF Girl DJ Bootcamp, CATS ON CRACK has been spreading her gospel of good vibes far and wide. She’s paid her dues in an eclectic fashion—be it laying out the soundtrack for reputable brands such as Marc by Marc Jacobs, BLUEPRINT and Singapore Art Museum; dishing out the deep, dark and dirty at corners of the island’s nightlife fixtures such as kyō, Kilo Lounge and Velvet Underground—and continues to do so with much gusto and glee.
Her sound—an ever-evolving melting pot of beats inspired by the likes of Dixon, Matthew Dear, Andhim, Adriatique, Bella Saris, and Catz ‘N Dogz—has brought her behind the decks with personal legends such as tINI, Todd Edwards, Cassy, Danny Daze, Terrence Parker, Anoraak, Scarlett Etienne and more. CATS ON CRACK also plays in the big league, having conquered festivals like ZoukOut, Super 0 Season and Tanjong Beach Club’s Full Steam Ahead. Not one to rest on her laurels, she’s gone on to launch and run her own night with Poptart’s head honcho weelikeme. Dubbed ‘Modern Love’, she combines her house-natured tunes with weelikeme’s grown up indie electronica. The result? A blossoming friendship and a happily heaving dance floor.
