Remembering Teresa 怀念邓丽君: Melissa Tham & The Jeremy Monteiro Band

Come and celebrate the life and music of the late great vocalist Teresa Teng, as we present a jazzy tribute to one of Asia’s most loved vocalists, Teresa Teng. She was one of the highest selling vocalists of all time before her untimely passing in 1995, with her immense success and popularity in China and with Chinese-speaking people all across the globe.

The concert marks the launch of a beautifully arranged album, “Remembering Teresa: Melissa Tham & The Jeremy Monteiro Band” that was recently recorded in Germany, which will be released on the Jazznote Record label.

It features as the lead artist of the show vocalist Melissa Tham who has become one of Singapore’s best-known Jazz vocalists. In 2014 UK jazz journalist Ian Patterson of allaboutjazz.com praised her for having “won over the Queen Elizabeth Hall” at her guest performance with the Jeremy Monteiro Trio at the EFG London Jazz Festival in 2014. Melissa is also the recipient of the SingJazz Vocalist of the Year award in 2015.

Long time collaborator and well-known jazz pianist Jeremy Monteiro and a stellar band of musicians including top Hong Kong guitarist Eugene Pao will accompany her. Also in the band are drummer Shawn Kelley, flutist Rit Xu and saxophonist Julian Chan.

The tunes made popular by Teresa Teng such as‘月亮代表我的心 The Moon Represents My Heart’,‘我只在乎你 I Only Care About You’, and‘Goodbye My Love’are given a fresh jazz treatment which both honours the original beauty of the songs whilst taking on a new jazzy and sophisticated approach.

It is particularly meaningful for Jeremy to have produced the album and be the music director on this show for two reasons. One, he recorded with Teresa Teng in the 1980s and two, Melissa Tham is one of his favourite jazz singers.
