Rites of Passage at The Warehouse

Starting an independent creative pursuit from scratch feels like jumping off a cliff and building a makeshift plane going down. Kwago book bar was bootstrapped at the doorstep of Warehouse Eight in barely a month with no financial backing. We did a fundraiser early January and we were overwhelmed with the love and support of the community. Friends and strangers donated their skills, books, booze, and furniture to build the vision of creating a little home for readers, DIY zine makers, writers, and artist-publishers at La Fuerza. And we feel that it's really yours as much as it's ours.

After its birth on January 27, 2018, we have learned a lot from 11 months of constant experimentation and launching projects that promote and deepen our understanding of the various ways we tell stories, like Komura; book fair and Echoes PH

Unveiling a refurbished space, new partners, and programs on Feb 9, 11AM - 11PM!

Welcoming Jean Karl Gaverza of The Spirits of the Philippine Archipelago as Kwago's new partner and chief espiritista! Launching a special program A Curated Shelf to improve discourses on publishing, writing and reading, co-developed with a new publishing and curatorial initiative by Roy Voragen and Czyka Tumaliuan - Comma! Showing off our new collection of books and a collaboration with our friends from Escolta - Reymart Cerin and Vince África of The Public School Manila and Angelo Ray of One/zero. They have re-imagined what our tiny book bar could be and have designed a line of furniture for all our bookworm cravings!

We’re so excited to announce a lot of things - from new institutional co-conspirators, publisher-partners, artists, zine makers and collaborators of Kwago to our renewed inventory of ideas and reading accessories!

Kicking off the year with a rebirth - our BINYAG, if you will. Everyone who will come becomes our ninangs and ninongs!! We need your love to celebrate this important milestone, this rite of passage!!

Pledge PHP 380 and leave us a note. Will give you a fiction-inspired coffee or cocktail for the love!

Email isipkwago@gmail.com if you want to collaborate and support in any other way!
