TITANIC MASTERPIECES

On OMM-WAYO:

When heavens collide, a big bang usually results. This joint concert paired the best young musical outfits from Singapore and Perth, Western Australia. Chang Tou Liang, 16 December 2009, The Straits Times – Life!

On Alexandre da Costa:

Prodigious technique, beautiful sound and above all a direct, expressive and very varied musicality; we are in front of one of the great violinists of today. Ramon Avello: El Comercio Digital, Spain

Programme

Ludwig van Beethoven (arr. Mahler) – Symphony No. 5 (performed by the OMM-SOTA Camp Orchestra and WAYO)
Pablo de Sarasate – Zigeunerweisen
Gustav Mahler – Symphony No. 1 ‘Titan’ (performed by OMM and WAYO)

Conductors: Chan Tze Law, Peter Moore OAM
Violinist: Alexandre da Costa

The Western Australian Youth Orchestra (WAYO) returns to join forces with OMM once again after their stunning double orchestra extravaganza in 2009. This time, these two Orchestras will be joined by the OMM-SOTA Camp Orchestra in a concert of titanic proportions!

WAYO Music Director, Peter Moore, will lead the combined forces in a special expanded orchestration of Beethoven’s monumental Fifth Symphony by Gustav Mahler, before OMM’s Music Director, Chan Tze Law brings his critically acclaimed direction of Mahler’s own First Symphony Symphony to the fore.

Superstar violinist Alexandre da Costa adds a sprinkling of stardust with Sarasate’s succulent Zigeunerweisen.
