Apple unveils floating store at Marina Bay Sands with underwater boardroom and video wall

A new Apple store and landmark for Singapore is set to open this Thursday (10/9) at the Marina Bay Sands.

This is the first Apple store to float on the water, with a submerged boardroom supporting an all-glass dome structure. Completely surrounded by water, the location boasts unparalleled views of the iconic Singapore skyline overlooking the Esplanade and Central Business District – a treat for the eyes from the outside and in.

Put together with 114 pieces of glass, only 10 narrow vertical mullions were used for structural connection of the entire store. As partially inspired by the Pantheon in Rome, an oculus sits atop the dome – letting in sunlight that penetrates the interior of the glass lined with “custom baffles” that are “uniquely shaped to counter sun angles”. This creates a nighttime lighting effect that plays on the trees sprinkled throughout the dome, casting soft and naturistic shadows.

To the side you’ll also find The Forum which is easily recognisable by its video wall. Moving forward, this will become the stage for Today at Apple sessions featuring Singapore’s artists, musicians, and creators. Entrepreneurs and developers interested in receiving training and advice can also meet with Apple team members in Apple’s first underwater boardroom, in the basement of the store.

Welcoming visitors at Apple Marina Bay Sands this Thursday will be a 148-person team who collectively speak over 23 languages. Safe management measures will be implemented for both employees and visitors including a mask requirement, temperature checks, and social distancing.

To ensure the health and well-being of guests, visits on Thursday will be by appointment only. Click here to schedule your visit.
