'Baby Shark Dance' has officially become the world's first YouTube video to hit 10 billion views — what an earworm indeed.

On 13 January 2022, the 2016 animated music video surpassed ‘Despacito’ by Luis Fonsi to become the most viewed music video, 2.3 billion views ahead of second place.

Since first beating 'Despacito' in November 2020, the music video reigned as the Most-viewed YouTube video for 15 consecutive months as it took the world by storm with the viral dance challenge #BabySharkChallenge — from little kids to global pop stars, everyone was doing the dance challenge on social media. The song was also on Billboard's Hot 100 for 20 consecutive weeks, earning the Platinum RIAA Diamond award 11 times.

Accompanied by iconic characters, song and dance, Baby Shark acquired its own preschool TV animated series, Baby Shark's Big Show!, on Nickelodeon in 2021, and was in the top 3 series for preschoolers in the States. Following the success of the series, the show is set to air for a second season. In Southeast Asia, Baby Shark’s Big Show! is currently airing on Nick Jr. daily at 11am (WIB) and 12pm (MY, PH, SG).

Its feature film, Pinkfong and Baby Shark's Space Adventure, was the fifth most-watched movie in Netflix's Today's Top 10 list in the U.S, and a sequel is currently in the works.

Min-seok Kim, CEO of The Pinkfong Company, expressed his gratitude for the success of Baby Shark, and his plans for the company.

“We are delighted to announce that our beloved Baby Shark has recorded another remarkable milestone. It has been a truly meaningful journey to witness how Baby Shark has connected people around the world and we can’t wait to introduce Baby Shark’s further adventures that will bring unparalleled experiences to even more fans everywhere.”

As part of celebrating the milestone, The Pinkfong Company will launch a year-long campaign, Beyond Infinity, which aims to build confidence in fans that anything is possible, just as Baby Shark has been able to expand its own universe beyond the internet to produce its own films and TV series.

On the internet, the Pinkfong company continues to grow, receiving the Diamond Creator Award from YouTube for its Spanish YouTube channel which had amounted to more than 10 million followers, its third Diamond Creator Award from YouTube after receiving it for its English and Korean YouTube channels.  Last year, the company received the Custom Creator Award from YouTube for surpassing 50 million subscribers on Pinkfong’s English YouTube channel.
