Bandwagon Mix #46: Vortex

Bandwagon Mix #46: Vortex

Estimated:  reading

Every week, Bandwagon invites a guest to do a mix for us. Rather than a standard interview where the artist explains their influences, we figured it’d be more potent if you simply listened to the music.

We provide the context, they provide the sounds.

Few names in Singaporean drum & bass are as highly revered as Andy Leong, better known by his deck moniker of Vortex. The Lion City D&B OG has been endearingly nicknamed as "The General" by the scene's followers, which just goes to show how beloved he is by the junglist massive here. Not only is he a pioneer behind the decks, his old website Exit Musik was pretty much the de facto hub for the heads back in the day, while his Qilin Music label (co-founded with Kiat) grew into a respected drum & bass imprint overseas.

Able to go between hard hitting beats and liquid smooth bass lines, a Vortex set never fails to get the crowd grooving. From supporting superstars like Goldie and LTJ Bukem, to headlining high-profile gigs in London (where he now resides), to starring on the legendary D&B Arena's D&BTV Live program - Vortex has pretty much been there and done that. With his impending return to Singapore to open for Shogun Audio's Icicle at Canvas this Saturday, we asked the The General himself to lead the charge on this week's Bandwagon Mix.
