According to the album preview photo shared on Weverse, the track was produced by Kygo and Bill Rahko, and features writing credits by Jin, all four members of Coldplay - Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and Jonny Buckland, as well as Kygo, Joan La Barbara, and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Pop music icon Max Martin is also credited as an Executive Producer.

A known Coldplay fan, this will mark Jin's second time working with the band after their Billboard Hot 100 number 1 hit with BTS, 'My Universe'.  Jin will also be joining Coldplay at the Argentina leg of their Music of the Spheres tour for the live debut of 'The Astranaut' on 28 October. Fans can watch the concert in cinemas across the globe. The performance will also be uploaded to BANGTANTV at 3 PM KST on 29 October.

In a statement, BIGHIT MUSIC shares that "it’s a song made with so much love toward the fans" and that 'The Astronaut' is a gift from Jin to all ARMYs. Alongside an official music video, a special lyric video will also be released on 31 October, 12 AM KST.

The new single, priced at USD 15.79 on Weverse Shop, will be available for pre-order on Wednesday, 19 October at 11 AM KST.

Jin will be the latest BTS member to release solo music, following j-hope's sophomore album, Jack In The Box last July.

"I have a new album coming out. It's not that big of a deal. It's just a single. I was able to collaborate with someone I really adore. I have a lot of content to share with you so I hope you enjoy them," said Jin, during his closing ment at Yet To Come in Busan

Previously, Jin released 'Tonight' and 'Abyss', both of which were his first solo songs outside of a BTS album, on SoundCloud and YouTube respectively. He also performed 'Yours,' the official theme song of 2021 K-drama Jirisan. Last year, in celebration of his birthday, the singer also released his viral hit 'Super Tuna' which has inspired an array of covers and challenges online.

Beyond music, Jin most recently collaborated with MapleStory last August to release a two-part adventure as the MMORPG title's new "Game Planner".

On 17 October, BIGHIT MUSIC confirmed that BTS will be fulfilling their mandatory military service starting with Jin, following the release of his brand new single.
