EVAN is carving out his identity as a self-producing solo artist with his first mini-album. Released on 7 September, DEATH OF ME sees the K-pop soloist taking the creative lead across all eight tracks, spanning songwriting, production, and the record's overall creative direction.
Ahead of its arrival, DEATH OF ME surpassed 500,000 Spotify pre-saves, making it the most pre-saved album by a K-pop soloist in the platform's history, according to BELIFT LAB.
At the centre of the record is 'Death of Me', a heavy pop R&B title track co-written by EVAN. The song captures his determination to stay true to himself as he steps into a new chapter, anchored by the declaration: “Ain’t the death of me.”
Its accompanying music video puts EVAN onstage and revolves around the concept of “LIVE”, playing with the word's dual meaning of being alive and performing.
Across the rest of DEATH OF ME, EVAN moves between pop, alternative rock, indie pop, dream pop, and R&B. The eight-track project opens with 'Not Enough', 'Noise', and 'Ride or Die', before moving into 'Twilight', 'Immature', 'Overflow', and closing track 'Going Home'.
Through the record, EVAN charts a progression from intensity towards introspection, further establishing the musical direction he wants to pursue as a solo artist.
