Counting down the days to the official MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026 ceremony happening on 13 June at the TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO, the vibrant lineup of events lighting up Japan as part of MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN WEEK continues to build excitement with a plethora of performances, artists, and genres. Music lovers get the chance to explore Japan’s vibrant music scene and traverse the unique soundscapes created by international and regional artists as well.

Featured on the stacked lineup of events taking place ahead of the awards was Shibuya Sound Scramble 2026, SONG BRIDGE Stage. The diverse lineup showcased not only some of Japan's most exciting trailblazers, but also standout artists from the Philippines and Indonesia, reinforcing the awards' role as a champion of regional music and cultural exchange.

First up on stage were none other than the pioneers of “Tokyo Transition Soul”, Billyrrom. Their performance was a delectable cocktail of genres that represented their artistry perfectly. They truly got the crowd up on their feet with the addictive energy of new bangers such as their latest single ‘Boogie’, along with chart-topping hits like ‘Funky Lovely Girl’.

Switching to Bahasa, they thanked the audience with a warm "Terima Kasih," acknowledging the diverse crowd of Indonesian, Filipino, and Japanese music lovers gathered at duo MUSIC EXCHANGE.

The Japanese funk masters were followed up by a truly electrifying performance by Cup of Joe, who brought their hypnotic indie rock sensibilities to the stage. They delivered evocative Tagalog lyricism through their captivating live renditions of some of their earlier hits like ‘Tataya’ from their 2023 EP Patutunguhan and newer bangers such as ‘Sandali’ from their latest EP of the same name.

They took a moment to address the crowd, sharing what the opportunity to perform so far away from home meant to them as vocalist Gian Bernardino said, “We are so excited to bring OPM to the world because music is universal and we can break language barriers.” They closed the fiery performance with their sensational hit ‘Multo’. The crowd was transported to a dreamlike world of layered sonic textures, with airy synth chimes blending seamlessly with the sizzling guitar riffs and bruising drum line.

Carrying on the explosive showcase of Southeast Asian talent was the one and only Hindia. He opened with one of his first solo hits, ‘Evaluasi’, from his 2019 album Menari Dengan Bayangan before bringing the vulnerability and emotional resonance of his 2025 mixtape Doves, ‘25 on Blank Canvas to the stage.

He delivered the heartbreaking honesty of ‘kids’ as the crowd screamed the lyrics, “be home with my cats, be home with my kids”. His performance of ‘everything u are’ beautifully marked the end of his set. Each verse of the track was brought to life before audiences through the gritty guitar chords and punchy drum beats. Hindia definitely created a static buzz of euphoria and catharsis that left a lasting impact on the crowd.

Rounding off the amazing evening was Natsuko Nisshoku, who flipped the switch from searing rock vibes to rich piano melodies. During her set, she added to the powerful message of each of her compositions, with the press of each key adding a different emotional dimension to the music. The diverse mix of genres being represented came through with her one-of-a-kind piano prowess as she demonstrated her range and versatility just with her fingers and outstanding vocals.

From indie rock and alternative sounds to soulful grooves and piano-driven storytelling, Shibuya Sound Scramble 2026, SONG BRIDGE Stage served as a vibrant showcase of the musical diversity that MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN seeks to celebrate. MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN Week reinforces the awards' commitment to fostering cultural exchange and shining a spotlight on exceptional talent from across the region.
