Jamir Garcia's family and Balcony Entertainment to release his first posthumous solo album, first single to drop this September

The family of late Filipino rock vocalist Jamir Garcia has announced a posthumous album.

A letter written by Jamir's brother, Kenneth Garcia, revealed the release of an upcoming solo album on the Slapshock frontman's official Facebook page. The record will be a collection of songs that "would aptly define and genuinely showcase [Jamir's] music as a solo singer/songwriter" and that "his solo album would be the pinnacle of his musical journey," Kenneth shared.

The first single is scheduled for release on September 5 (Sunday) to commemorate Jamir's birthday.

In his letter, Kenneth reminisced the days when Jamir would come home to Virginia Beach and update his family about the songs he'd written for a planned solo album. "His eyes would light up with inimitable enthusiasm as he shared details of the new solo songs he had written and sometimes even let us hear snippets of them," Kenneth wrote.

The upcoming record is being produced by Rico Blanco and Balcony Entertainment. In his letter, Kenneth thanked Rico Blanco and Balcony Entertainment for taking on the project. "We couldn't have chosen a better home for Jamir's songs and we are 100% sure that he would have approved of our choice," he wrote. "Rico genuinely cared for Jamir's songs."

Jamir Garcia passed away in November 2020. He was 42.

Slapshock were one of the Filipino acts, alongside Greyhoundz and Queso, that led the charge of nu metal in the country in the late '90s. They were initially scheduled to release a new album in celebration of their 23rd anniversary, following 2017's Atake.

During all those times that Jamir would come home to Virginia Beach for a much needed and well-deserved vacation, he would hang out with us, his brothers, non-stop and almost always Jamir would excitedly update us on the songs he had written for the solo album he was planning to release. His eyes would light up with inimitable enthusiasm as he shared details of the new solo songs he had written and sometimes even let us hear snippets of them.

In early 2020, in one of his emails to us, Jamir intimated that he was ready to release the solo album, having composed and completed enough songs that he would truly treasure and be proud of -- songs that would aptly define and genuinely showcase his music as a solo singer/songwriter. Jamir wrote the songs in his solo album throughout the different stages of his musical life. Music was and always had been Jamir's first true love and passion. Music was his one true North. He had often told us that his solo album would be the pinnacle of his musical journey. As always, he wanted to share this part of the journey with you — his loyal fans. And so here we are writing this letter to let you all know that the first single will be released on September 5, to commemorate his birthday.

We are indebted to Rico Blanco, and his music label Balcony Entertainment, for readily accepting the enormous challenge and responsibility of producing Jamir's solo album. We couldn't have chosen a better home for Jamir's songs and we are 100% sure that he would have approved of our choice. Rico genuinely cared for Jamir's songs. Jamir's band brothers, Lean and Chi, his friends Jared, Mon and Jowee of Team Manila, and his Macbeth family offered and provided their endless support.

Jamir may no longer be with us here physically but we have his songs to be with him again, to feel him again, to hear him again, to sing with him again, and to love him again. His songs will stay forever -- here, with us, and for us.

Peace, Love, and Music.
