Malam itu menampilkan pertunjukan oleh artis-artis seperti ratu comeback BLACKPINK, juara Eurovision Måneskin, bintang pop Brasil Anitta, ikon hip-hop Eminem dan Snoop Dogg, dan banyak lagi.
Para pemenang termasuk grup K-pop SEVENTEEN yang memenangkan PUSH Performance of the Year untuk 'Rock With You', memenangkan VMA pertama mereka, dan artis K-pop pertama yang memenangkan kategori tersebut.
Yang membuat sejarah adalah BTS yang dinobatkan sebagai Group of the Year untuk tahun keempat berturut-turut. Ikon pop global telah memegang gelar tersebut sejak kembalinya kategori tersebut pada tahun 2019, dan telah melampaui No Doubt sebagai grup dengan kemenangan terbanyak dalam kategori tersebut.
Kembali dari hiatus singkat, BLACKPINK mengantongi Best Metaverse Performance untuk konser in-game PUBG Mobile mereka yang bertajuk THE VIRTUAL. Sementara itu, LISA BLACKPINK membawa pulang penghargaan Best K-pop untuk lagu solonya, 'LALISA'.
Debut penyutradaraan ikon pop Taylor Swift 'All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version)' memenangkan Video of the Year, serta Best Longform Video dan Best Direction.
Harry Styles mencetak tiga kemenangan dengan Best Pop dan Best Cinematography untuk 'As It Was', dan Album of the Year untuk Harry's House.
Ikon rap Puerto Rico Bad Bunny dinobatkan sebagai Artist of the Year, sedangkan 'Happier Than Ever' karya Billie Eilish adalah Song of the Year 2022.
Penerima Video Vanguard Nicki Minaj juga memenangkan Best Hip-Hop untuk 'Do We Have A Problem?' dengan Lil Baby.
